Carolyn Forster - Perkiomen Valley Quilts

The quilting group had another successful day with Carolyn Forster.

Her workshops are always inspiring and this one took us through the many ways of arranging light/ dark squares and half square triangles to make 9 patch blocks used in Perkiomen Valley quilts.

Carolyn had several beautiful examples to show us and we had a fun day cutting, sewing, chatting and laughing.

Thank you Carolyn.

Lynda was so inspired that she has managed to finish her quilt top and shared it with the rest of us on Monday.

Finally, we would like to welcome two new members to our group:
Gill Smith and Marian Tibbo.

Sandown Quilt Show 2016

Twelve of our group went for their annual Sandown Quilt Show fix.  The weather was a bit dull but the variety and colour of the patchwork materials shone.

I think we all managed to get something for our stashes but didn't go too mad.

The exhibition quilts gave us a lot of ideas.

This Irish Chain was made completely from scraps and on closer inspection had a simple way of creating the pattern.  (One idea to keep for all those scraps of fabric)

An idea for that roll of Kaffe Fassett shot cotton fabric fq's!

Jessie Chorley Workshop

The weather may not have been brilliant, but it didn't spoil the lovely day we spent with Jessie Chorley learning about mixed media journals.

Jessie demonstrating a technique

We started the day looking at examples of Jess's work.  Then we chose a hardback book supplied by Jessie and learnt how to prepare it for our journals by removing some pages and gluing other pages together.

Jess showed us how to use found paper, card, buttons and other things to decorate the front cover and how to decorate pages within the journal.

We spent the morning cutting and gluing and gradually moved onto embellishing our pages with mementos brought from home.

As you can see we all had plenty of scraps, photos, buttons and bows.

Laying out a page for a photo memento journal.

A lot of thought was needed at times!

Jessie then taught us how to make and join the tie for the outside of the book. She made suggestions about what to embroider on the tape; how to make a covered button and sew them onto the hard cover of the book.

Finally we learnt how to make a bow to use where we wished on our book.

 More examples of Jessie's work.

A lovely different workshop enjoyed by everyone.  We look forward to another workshop with Jess next year.
